Moldovan government facilitates access to public data for citizens and businesses

19 March 2025, Chișinău - Citizens and businesses will have easier access to public data, and personal data will be better protected. The government has approved a draft law on open data and reuse of public sector information.
The document regulates the procedure for submitting and processing requests for the reuse of public data for purposes other than those for which they were collected. It also lays down how to challenge a refusal to disclose information.
According to the bill, institutions will be required to modernize the data collection and publication processes, and to reduce administrative costs and time needed to handle information requests.
The draft's impact will be significant for both the private sector and at a social level. Open data can be used to identify new market opportunities, improve marketing strategies, and develop new products, services and businesses. The use of open data will reduce companies' costs for conducting research and data collection.
The Ministry of Economic Development and Digitization will coordinate the policy development process in open data, and the Electronic Governance Agency will conduct a detailed evaluation of the government’s open data portal - www.date.gov.md to determine the needs for its development and modernization.
