Moldovan PM has dialogue with new director of Office for Democratic Institutions sand Human Rights

19 March 2025, Chișinău - The present regional situation, in the context of Russia's brutal war in Ukraine, as well as the efforts of the Moldovan authorities to combat hybrid threats aimed at disrupting democratic processes have been discussed by Prime Minister Dorin Recean and the new director of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), Maria Telalian.
The PM appreciated ODIHR's support in monitoring elections in Moldova and supporting legislative initiatives in the electoral field. According to the prime minister, foreign interferences and hybrid attacks on behalf of the Kremlin escalate during electoral periods and such actions as massive buying of votes undermine the integrity of the electoral process.
“Nevertheless, Moldova continues to defend democracy and build resilient institutions. We will continue democratic reforms, including those in the electoral sector, and anchor our country in the European space of peace, prosperity and democracy,” said Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
For her part, ODIHR director Maria Telalian reiterated the Office's commitment to back Moldova in conducting the upcoming elections and strengthening the rule of law.
