Moldovan PM has meeting with European Council President

3 March 2025, Chisinau - The way the European Union helps Moldova become prosperous and safe, as well as the way Moldova can make Europe stronger and more united today was discussed at a meeting between Prime Minister Dorin Recean and European Council President Antonio Costa.
„Three years ago, with the signing of the application on accession to the European Union, Moldova officialized its way - a future of peace, unity and development in the great European family. In our capacity of state candidate for accession, we have a strong partnership with the European countries and benefit from continuous support,’’ the PM said.
Given that the visit to Chisinau by the European Council president marks three years since the submission by Moldova of the application on accession to the European Union, the officials reviewed the progress made in the accession process in the past three years.
The prime minister highlighted the continuous assistance the European Union was providing for Moldova’s development, emphasizing the Growth Plan for Moldova, through which the country will benefit from investments worth 1.9 billion euros. The PM pointed out the financial resources for investments, for the compensation of invoices and infrastructure’s modernization.
„All these come from the European Union. For the safe future, in well-being, of our citizens, we are obliged to continue our path to EU and the close partnership with the member states,’’ Dorin Recean noted.
António Costa is on a one-day official visit to Chisinau. The European Council president had an official meeting with President Maia Sandu, after which the officials met students and professors of the Moldovan State University, entrepreneurs, journalists and civil society’s representatives. The sides discussed the importance of everybody’s involvement in the edification of a European future of Moldova. Also, Antonio Costa also had a working dinner with Prime Minister Dorin Recean, President Maia Sandu and Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu.
