Moldovan PM participates in festivity on Local Autonomy Day

31 January 2025, Chișinău - About 700 representatives of the local public administration (APL) from Moldova’s northern region have participated in an event organized by the government, on the occasion of the professional Day of the Local Autonomy and Local Public Administration Employee. The event was held with the title, European future – local well-being, and took place in Balti.
In his speech, PM Dorin Recean appreciated the contribution of the local public administration’s representatives in the development of communities. He stressed the importance of their contribution to the process of improvement of the living standards of Moldova’s people. The PM referred to the gifted people from the northern districts, who succeeded in various sectors and developed successful businesses, noting that all these stories had a common element – work and dedication of residents and local authorities.
„You, the mayors, deputy mayors, local councilors represent the engine of this success. As long as I have been prime minister, I visited all districts of the country and over 100 towns and villages from northern Moldova. I wanted to see the reality on ground, to discuss with people, to understand the challenges you face and find solutions together. And I can say with every conviction: the government is with you and we together prove that Moldova is able!’’ Prime Minister Dorin Recean said.
Also, the PM touched upon the concrete measures through which the Moldovan authorities had backed the local public authorities. Among them, there is the implementation of the European Village Programme – 613 projects were financed in 2024 alone and 701.5 million lei was allocated for 2025 for water, sewerage, public illumination and energy efficiency. At the same time, the process of voluntary amalgamation was facilitated, the financial support increased for the mayors and APL employees and more autonomy was provided to the local authorities.
„We everybody want prosperous communities, good roads, modern schools and efficient public services. Yet, we must recognize a truth: our resources are limited and the financing of settlements depends on the possibilities of our economy. The European Union is the only solution which can help us grow and develop – it is with us and supports us,’’ the prime minister stressed.
This year, the Day of the Local Autonomy and Local Public Administration Employee in marked in three regions of Moldova. President Maia Sandu attended the event organized in Calarasi and Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu was with the local public authorities from Cahul.
