New record: the share of exports from the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova to EU countries in the first half of 2024 amounted to more than 80%, and imports – 53%

Thanks to the constant efforts of the constitutional authorities to gradually integrate the activity of economic agents from the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova into the national legal framework, in the first semester of 2024 there was again an increase in import-export transactions with the member states of the European Union (EU).
In this context, in the first semester of 2024, the export of economic agents from the Transnistrian region to the EU countries constituted over 80%, a new record figure since the signing of the Association Agreement with the Republic of Moldova, in 2023 this figure was over 70%.
Similarly, in the same reference period, we see a continuation of import trade relations with the EU, reflecting the indicator of 53%.
The main destinations in the EU, chosen by economic agents from the Transnistrian region, traditionally remain: Romania, Poland, Czech Republic, Italy, Bulgaria, Germany, Slovakia, France, Latvia, Austria, etc.
The suspension of the activity of all checkpoints on the central (Transnistrian) segment of the Moldovan-Ukrainian state border as a consequence of war in Ukraine led to a change in logistics chains and a significant reorientation of the region’s trade activities towards EU markets. This also led to the strengthening of internal trade ties with the right bank of the Nistru River, strengthening the economic and logistics connection between the two banks.
