Sweden supports Moldova in enhancing energy resilience

11 February 2025, Chișinău - The progress made by Moldova on the European integration way, the present regional situation and the actions undertaken by the Moldovan authorities to overcome the challenges in the energy sector have been discussed at a meeting of Prime Minister Dorin Recean and Minister for Foreign Trade and International Development Cooperation of Sweden Benjamin Dousa.
The PM appreciated the support of Sweden, provided on periods marked by crises, noting that the programmes implemented and the Swedish assistance brought a value added to Moldova’s development. Also, the PM thanked the Swedish official for contribution to the consolidation of Moldova’s energy independence – Sweden will allocate about 8.7 million euros in the Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund. The funds will allow the state to support the most vulnerable households and will help reduce the burden of costs for energy resources of this winter.
„The energy crisis, created by Russia, showed who Moldova’s reliable friends are. We will continue making active strategic steps and, along with our partners from the European Union, to ensure the definitive independence of the entire country from the Russian gas blackmail,’’ Prime Minister Dorin Recean said.
The officials also discussed the attraction of Swedish investments in Moldova, the combating of hybrid threats, reforms implemented by the authorities in the key sectors, the country’s European integration way and opportunities of consolidating the Moldovan-Swedish cooperation, for the benefit of both countries’ citizens.
The Kingdom of Sweden is among the most important development partners of Moldova, with numerous projects implemented by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency. The bilateral cooperation is focused on the development of educational programmes, economy’s growth, environmental protection, as well as the enhancing of the resilience of Moldova’s energy sector.
