Transnistrian settlement process discussed with European officials
On the sidelines of the Partnership Platform for Moldova meeting, which takes place today, September 17 in Chișinău, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian had working meetings with H. E. Brendan Ward, Ambassador of Ireland to the Republic of Moldova and Mrs. Sari Lehtiranta, Deputy Director General Euro-Atlantic Department Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.
During the dialogue, Oleg Serebrian expressed thanks to the two officials for the support provided to the Republic of Moldova in the processes of European transformation and modernization of our country and for the firm support given to Moldova in the process of accession to the European Union.
In the context of the future presidency of Finland in the OSCE, in the discussion with Mrs. Sari Lehtiranta, regional security, the current state of the Transnistrian settlement process, the main directions of activity for the promotion of policies in the field of reintegration of the country, the efforts of the Chișinău authorities to maintain peace and regional security, as well as to improve the living standards of the inhabitants on both banks of the Nistru River. Oleg Serebrian confirmed Chișinău's determination to find a peaceful and sustainable solution to the Transnistrian conflict.
During the discussion with the Ambassador of Ireland, Brendan Ward, regarding the Transnistrian topic, the case of Northern Ireland was evoked and in this context the exchange of experience in crisis management offered on various occasions to the Bureau for Reintegration Policies.
We remind that Chișinău hosts today the fifth edition of the Partnership Platform for Moldova, initiated by Romania, Germany and France. The event is held under the patronage of Prime Minister Dorin Recean and gathered more than 65 participants – ministers, deputy ministers, state secretaries of foreign political departments of partner countries, representatives of the diplomatic corps and international organizations.
