United States extends support for Moldova with 1.3-billion-lei-worth grant for development projects

15 January 2025, Chișinău - Moldova will benefit from a grant worth 1.3 billion lei on behalf of the United States for the development of the transport and enhancing the country’s cyber resilience. 

 

Prime Minister Dorin Recean and the head of the Mission of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), John Allelo, signed a joint declaration today. The document regards the allocation of an additional support, within the Agreement on assistance concerning the development goal, signed by the governments of Moldova and the USA.    

 

„We thank the U.S. Government for the backing of the development programmes in our country. The grant of 1.3 billion lei, provided to Moldova, will contribute to the prosperity of our citizens and ensuring the high living standards, in an environment of peace and security,’’ Prime Minister Dorin Recean said.   

 

A part of the sum earmarked will be meant for projects on the development of transport infrastructure, in order to improve the commercial and economic cooperation between Moldova and Ukraine. Another part of the grant will be used for the building of areas of parking for trucks, nearby the state borders, purchasing of equipment and providing of technical assistance for the development of the Beresti-based Multimodal Logistic Centre.  

 

The funds allocated are meant for enhancing the cyber resilience at the state public institutions. The assistance will include trainings in the field of cyber security and development of skills related, in order to be able to participate and respond to the threats in the cyber sector.   

 

„We will continue to invest in projects from which the people of Moldova directly benefit and to contribute to the prosperous and safe future of the citizens,’’ the head of the USAID Moldova Mission, John Allelo, said.  

 

The agreement on assistance concerning the development goal between the governments of Moldova and the USA for economic growth anchored in the European integration was signed in Chisinau on 28 September 2016. During those 30 years of partnership with Moldova’s government, USAID has implemented over 130 development projects, providing 2.1 billion dollars within the partnership with Moldova.
