Government crisis cell: electricity consumption to be fully covered for 21 January

21 January 2025, Chișinău – Electricity consumption for the right bank of the Dniester River will be fully covered today, according to the information from the Government's Crisis Cell. An increase of approximately 3% over the previous day, January 20, is estimated.

 

In addition to the available domestic sources – the thermal power plants in Chișinău and Bălți and renewable energy sources, Energocom has reserved the necessary import capacity so that consumption is covered based on bilateral contracts and the Romanian market. The activation of emergency contracts and/or unintended flows is not required.

 

The electricity consumption for January 20, on the right bank of the Dniester River was covered at a 100% level. It registered an increase of approximately 11% compared to the previous day, reaching 13,605,000 kWh. The energy sources used were as follows:

- Electricity import (RO) – 56.62%

- Termoelectrica – 29.67%

- Renewable energy – 8.43%

- CET-Nord – 4.10%

- NHE Costești – 1.11%

 

The peak electricity consumption was recorded between 17:00 and 20:00, reaching a maximum of 908 MW. Consumers are encouraged to save electricity during peak hours 07:00-11:00 and 18:00-23:00, to have lower bills and to ensure the stability of the power system.

 

In total, during January 1-20, Energocom purchased 280 thousand MWh, at a weighted average price of about 126.75 euros/MWh. It is worth noting that the selling price of electricity, approved by the National Energy Regulatory Agency, is approximately 145 euros/MWh.

 

Regarding the Transnistrian region, scheduled power outages with a duration of 5 hours, once a day, continue to occur. On the left bank of the Dniester River, on January 20, the electricity consumption amounted to 4,096,614 kWh, with the coverage sources being the Cuciurgan power plant, Dubăsari hydropower plant and the technological flow.
