The reaction of the Bureau for Reintegration Policies on Tiraspol’s new abusive measures against free movement

In the context of the information disseminated in the public regarding the intention of Tiraspol to introduce, starting from January 1, 2024 so-called taxes regarding means of transport that exceed the total mass of 18 tons and which are not taken into account in the region, we inform about the following actions that were taken.

The political representative in the negotiation process for the Transnistrian settlement in Tiraspol was notified through the established dialogue channel and was requested to drop this illegal initiative creating artificial barriers to free movement and to be aware of the effects of the legal liability that those responsible are subjected to for making such decisions in the region.

We remind that this abusive action is a continuation of the series of premeditated challenges instituted by Tiraspol by which illegal payments are requested from the drivers of vehicles registered in the Republic of Moldova crossing the localities of the region (alleged vignette taxes, the obligation to have double mandatory car civil liability insurance, etc).

The situation was brought to the attention of the competent national authorities in order to take necessary legal actions.
