Ensuring public order and free movement during the November 5 elections was on the agenda of the November 2 meeting of the Joint Control Commission

The issue of illegal posts and abuses committed by Transnistrian structures in the Security Zone was the main topic on the agenda of the delegation of the Republic of Moldova that participated in the weekly meeting of the Joint Control Commission on November 2 in the city of Bender.

 

With regard to the previously signaled fact regarding the unauthorized works on the road connecting the town of Bender and the village of Varnița, the representatives of the Transnistrian region gave explanations such as that they aim to install a metal parapet with a length of 225 meters and a height of 75 centimeters. They stated that passages will be provided through the said facility and that traffic will not be endangered.

 

Mention was also made of a new blockage in the operation of the peacekeeping mechanism was also discovered in the current week, Tiraspol's exponents in the Joint Military Command preventing the movement of military observers for the regular documentation of some violations related to changes of infrastructure at the checkpoints of non-constitutional structures.

 

In the context of general local elections on November 5, 2023, the delegation of the Republic of Moldova stated that in the Security Zone, in the locations under the control of the authorities, conditions will be ensured for residents to participate in the voting procedure in accordance with the rights established by national legislation and international norms. It was emphasized that the forces of the territorial subdivisions of the General Police Inspectorate deployed in the Security Zone will be involved in the measures to maintain public order.

 

Along these lines, the Chisinau delegation warned the Transnistrian side to exclude any provocations with the potential to tense the situation. The participants to the Joint Control Commission, including representatives of the OSCE Mission and Ukraine, were asked to contribute to ensuring order and free movement of citizens on the day of the elections.
