Free movement in the Security Zone was obstructed exactly during the Joint Control Commission meeting
The fierce discussions during the Joint Control Commission meeting on 4 June highlighted the divergences between the delegations in regards to illegal checkpoints and traffic barriers from the Security Zone, but also the proper functioning of the military observers of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces.
The lack of consensus prevented approval of the working agenda this time as well, and the meeting was postponed to next week.
The Moldovan Delegation constantly pleads for unconditional removal of illegal checkpoints and for unblocking the activity of military observers, who cannot fulfill their duties of documenting abusive actions in the Security Zone. The members of the Commission from the Republic of Moldova do not accept the mimicry of the pacification processes and the signing of truncated reports on the situation in the Security Zone, which do not even include the presence of illegal checkpoints installed by Tiraspol.
Tiraspol has shown defiance of the reached agreements and documents of the peacekeeping mission on the Nistru River exactly on the day of the Joint Control Commission meeting. At one of the illegal checkpoints on Cocieri village outskirts, its exponents stopped and "fined" several locals, citizens of the Republic of Moldova, who were driving to do field work on the agricultural land. At the same time, the representatives of the Transnistrian region blocked the initiative of the Superior Military Chief from the Republic of Moldova in the Joint Military Command regarding movement of the military observers to document the incident. However, the case was registered by the representatives of the OSCE Mission to Moldova when monitoring the Security Zone.
The Delegation of the Republic of Moldova will continue to make use of available tools to remove the illegal checkpoints from the Security Zone and to establish effective cooperation mechanisms of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces.
