Human rights in the Transnistrian region from the anti-epidemiological measures’ perspective were discussed with the People's Advocate and the Government Agent at the ECHR
Human rights observance in the Transnistrian region, including during the pandemic, was discussed by the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Cristina Lesnic, and the representatives of the People's Advocate institution and the Government Agent at the European Court of Human Rights, Oleg Rotari.
The Deputy Prime Minister, Cristina Lesnic, thanked for previous collaboration with the People's Advocate Office, expressing her confidence that in the future it will be just as productive. The official informed about measures taken in accordance with the Commission for Emergency Situations’ decisions, including in the Security Zone, and about dialogue with the Transnistrian party in the context of epidemiological situation in the country.
There was an exchange of information regarding notifications received from the Transnistrian region and priorities in the activity of the People's Advocate Office. The Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration called for the Office’s involvement in monitoring access of the Security Zone residents to medical services and provision of medicines, as well as the rights of the teachers from the schools teaching in Romanian, including payment of salaries.
In turn, the Ombudsman, Mihai Cotorobai, asked for support in organizing the meeting of the Working Group on Human Rights, with an Agenda having a number of issues related to human rights observance in the Transnistrian region.
