Tiraspol blocks the conduct of the Population and Housing Census in the village of Corjova and other localities in the Dubăsari district

Given the fact that between April 8 and July 7, 2024, the Population and Housing Census will be held in the Republic of Moldova, at the request of the National Bureau of Statistics, the coordination of the aspects of facilitating access and obtaining security guarantees for the personnel involved, mobile electronic devices and the entire data collection process on the territory of the village of Corjova and other localities in Dubăsari district outside effective control of the constitutional authorities was ensured through the Chisinau-Tiraspol interaction channels.
Coordination was necessary to avoid possible incidents and crisis situations on the ground, in the context in which the actions involve an area located beyond the illegal infrastructure of the Tiraspol checkpoints, where the competent national authorities are limited in their ability to provide operational security measures and maintain public order.
Regrettably, both the political representative from Tiraspol and the delegation of Tiraspol in the Joint Control Commission communicated their categorical refusal to ensure access and offer security guarantees, qualified Chișinău's initiative as provocative and excessively politicized it, insisting that the national authorities refrain from this process in areas potentially generating outbreaks of tension.
These reactions once again denote that Tiraspol continues to maintain artificial barriers between the two banks of the Nistru River and to act in permanent confrontation with the authorities in Chișinău.
