The prime minister referred to the hybrid attacks on behalf of Russia and the actions through which the Kremlin had attempted to disturb the democratic processes in Moldova. According to PM, on the electoral period, the propaganda and the misinformation gained scope and the false stories were widely disseminated, in order to compromise the polls. At the same time, Moldova was target of an unprecedented fraud – the elections of the 2024 were marked by electoral corruption and the purchasing of votes by crime rings.
„We were witnesses of misinformation actions and campaigns, meant to divide the society, to influence the public opinion and undermine the confidence in the state’s institutions. With the technology available now, the problem of the government is the overwhelming number of fake news. The most important thing is that we continue investing in the education and in the development of the critical thinking, so that the people should be less manipulated. The misinformation has no borders and stays a global challenge, which needs collective solutions,’’ Prime Minister Dorin Recean said.
