Situation in the Transnistrian conflict settlement was discussed with ambassadors and representatives of international organizations accredited in the Republic of Moldova

The Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) for Reintegration, Cristina Lesnic, convened a video-conference today with the representatives of several embassies and international organizations accredited in the Republic of Moldova. The meeting objective was to discuss the situation in the Transnistrian conflict settlement during the state of emergency due to COVID-19 pandemic.

 

DPM Cristina Lesnic thanked for donations, medical and protective equipment offered to the population on both banks of Nistru during the epidemiological crisis and expressed solidarity with the countries affected by the new coronavirus.

 

Cristina Lesnic informed the audience about encountered challenges, Chisinau's efforts to limit spread of the new coronavirus and openness for a constructive dialogue with the Transnistrian side. In this context, the official highlighted the opportunities created for crisis management since the beginning of the state of emergency, such as procedures for importing medicines and food into the region and repatriation of Moldovan citizens, including for economic operators and population from the left bank of Nistru.

 

Other topics discussed were related to the technical mission of the World Health Organization to the Transnistrian region, performed at Chisinau’s request, and respect for human rights through the security dimension.

 

During the meeting, representatives of the diplomatic missions were briefed about human rights challenges throughout the process.

 

Therewith, Cristina Lesnic spoke about Chisinau's expectations regarding the population on both banks of Nistru within the Transnistrian conflict settlement.
