Current subjects discussed at the Joint Control Commission
The Joint Control Commission continues to monitor the situation in the Security Zone from the perspective of compliance with the established regime and the functionality of all the mechanisms of the peacekeeping operation on the Nistru River.
At the weekly meeting that took place in Bender on May 18, 2023, the discussions regarding the illegal posts of the Transnistrian force structures were resumed, and the delegation of the Republic of Moldova insisted on taking a decision establishing the obligation to eliminate illegal posts and their fortification constructions from the Security Zone.
The delegation of the Republic of Moldova also requested the initiation of investigations at the level of the Joint Military Command regarding the defiant behavior shown by a commander from the military contingent of the Russian Federation in the Mixed Peacekeeping Forces. On May 7, he appeared at the "Șerpeni Bridgehead" memorial complex, where a public event was being held, wearing on his uniform elements not provided in the documents of the Joint Control Commission and prohibited by the legislation of the Republic of Moldova.
In this context, the delegates of Chișinău submitted a statement, by which they called on the components of the Joint Control Commission to drop counterproductive approaches, unnecessary confrontations and other actions capable of further tensing the working atmosphere on the Commission's platform.
It should be noted that the incident is also being examined by the law enforcing institutions of the Republic of Moldova in accordance with the national legislation.
