Respect for human rights in crisis situations, especially on both banks of Nistru, tackled by the Deputy Prime Minister, Cristina Lesnic, with the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau, William Massolin

The Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Cristina Lesnic, held a discussion with the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau, William Massolin, regarding movement of medical personnel in the Transnistrian region and in the Security Zone, as well as respect for human rights in crisis situations.

Cristina Lesnic thanked the Council of Europe for cooperation, for the confidence measures package offered for both banks of Nistru, implemented with the CoE support, and requested the Council of Europe’s consultation on possible mechanisms for implementing human rights in crisis situations.

The parties exchanged views on the emergency situation management on both banks of Nistru and on the measures that are being implemented. Thus, Cristina Lesnic reiterated the need to continue monitoring the cases of individuals and non-governmental organizations concerned with human rights, that do not have access to the region.

The need to ensure free movement rights for teachers of the schools with Romanian curricula from the Transnistrian region during the emergency situation was also highlighted.

The recent visit of the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Dunja Mijatović, as well as recommendations in this area, were also addressed.

Both parties expressed interest in continuing the CoE cooperation and involvement on the human rights issue from the perspective of coherent management of the Covid-19 pandemic situation.
