Medical personnel residing in Transnistrian region, but employed within medical institutions on the right bank of Nistru, to be accommodated in localities where working, with the EU support

Medical personnel working in the Security Zone, but living on the left bank of Nistru will be temporarily accommodated in localities where they work. This solution was identified as a result of the free movement restrictions and 14 days self-isolations for persons entering the region, imposed by the Transnistrian side. The Bureau of Reintegration received 95 notifications from local public authorities in the Security Zone and the competent Ministry regarding obstacles imposed by the Transnistrian side towards the medical personnel.

The intense and specific challenges, caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, prompted identification of immediate solutions by the Bureau of Reintegration.

Accommodation is identified by the local public authorities, while costs and other administrative arrangements for the doctors/medical personnel are covered with the European Union support, provided through the Confidence Building Measures Programme on both banks of Nistru, and implemented by UNDP Moldova.

Accommodation of doctors in the localities where they work is based on voluntary consent. So far, 14 doctors from 7 districts are among the beneficiaries.

“This is a provisional solution to secure citizens' access to medical services. We have not given up efforts to ensure free movement of the population, foremost of the medical personnel, throughout the territory of the Republic of Moldova”, said the Deputy Prime Minister, Cristina Lesnic.

Previously, the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration requested that Transnistrian side allows free movement of doctors, and after the refusal, she notified the mediators of the Transnistrian conflict settlement process and the relevant international structures.
