74,500 citizens of the Republic of Moldova, residing in the Transnistrian region, are medically insured on the right bank of the Nistru River

According to data provided by the National Health Insurance Company, as of 31 December 2025, the Information System “Mandatory Health Insurance” (MHI) recorded 74,500 citizens of the Republic of Moldova residing in the Transnistrian region.

Of these, 61,851 persons were insured by the Government, including 36,252 children under the age of 18; 2.582 individuals paid the health insurance premium individually; and 10,067 persons were employed by entities registered in the State Register of the Republic of Moldova.

At the end of 2025, the lists of family doctors within medical and sanitary institutions providing primary healthcare services under the MHI system included 50,421 persons residing in the Transnistrian region. Of these, 29,060 were insured persons and 21,361 were uninsured.

During the period from 1 January to 31 December 2025, according to data from the information system “e-Prescription for Compensated Medicines and Medical Devices,” 8,283 persons from the eastern districts of the Republic of Moldova benefited from compensated medical items, with the total value of payments made from MHI funds amounting to 23.15 million lei.

According to the structure of expenditures for compensated medicines and medical devices, the most requested were medicines used in the treatment of chronic conditions with a major impact on public health, in particular cardiovascular diseases and diabetes mellitus.

At the same time, in 2025, within 63 inpatient medical service providers, 6,456 cases were treated, with a total budget allocation of 119.48 million lei. It should be noted that, through special treatment programs, services such as interventional cardiology, prosthetic replacement of the musculoskeletal system, endovascular surgery, implants, and other interventions were provided, all financed from MHI funds.

Ensuring equal access to essential medical services for all citizens, regardless of their place of residence on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, including residents of the left bank of the Nistru River and the municipality of Bender, contributes significantly to the protection of the health and lives of all individuals, ensures respect for their right to health and to receive necessary medical care, and also stimulates the strengthening of social cohesion.
