On 13 February 2026, at the initiative of Chișinău, the first meeting of the working groups for environment protection for the current year was held in videoconference format, with the participation of experts from both banks of the Nistru River.

According to the meeting agenda, experts from the Ministry of Environment, the Environmental Agency, the Environmental Protection Inspectorate, the Public Institution “Apele Moldovei” National Administration, the “Moldsilva” Agency, and the State Hydrometeorological Service addressed topics related to the implementation process of national legislation aligned with European regulatory requirements in the field of environmental protection, ensuring property rights over immovable assets belonging to state public property, as well as issues concerning the protection of atmospheric air, waters and the aquatic environment, efficient management of the forest fund, waste, and pollutant emissions.

In this context, representatives of the national authorities informed the representatives of Tiraspol about the need to ensure property rights and the efficient use of immovable assets in the municipality of Bender that belong to the “Moldsilva” Agency, with the removal of obstacles in their administration process.

Additionally, experts from Tiraspol were informed about the launch in the Republic of Moldova in 2026 of the process of implementing, with financial support from development partners, the National Forest Inventory. It represents an essential tool for assessing and monitoring the country’s forest resources, highlighting the importance of this exercise as well as the benefits of including the forest fund on the left bank of the Nistru River in the inventory process.

During the dialogue, experts from Chișinău once again presented relevant arguments regarding the importance of integrating economic operators from the Transnistrian region into the environmental reporting process, especially in terms of waste management and pollutant emissions, with explanations of legal procedures and the necessity of developing national emission inventories in accordance with European standards in the field.

Throughout the meeting, there was an exchange of views and information on measures undertaken to ensure the protection of atmospheric air, its quality, and the monitoring of emissions generated by industrial activities.

In this regard, representatives of Tiraspol were informed about activities carried out by state institutions aimed at installing an advanced automatic atmospheric air quality monitoring station of the urban background type in the locality of Varnița, Anenii Noi district, within the project “Facilitating an Inclusive Green Transition in the Republic of Moldova,” implemented by the United Nations Development Programme and funded by the European Union. The station will enable transparent assessment of pollution levels, identification of impact sources, and provide objective data for protecting the health of the population on both banks of the Nistru River. At the same time, it will serve as a solid basis for planning coordinated actions to reduce industrial emissions where necessary.

At the same time, the meeting addressed issues related to the application of national environmental legislation to economic operators from the left bank of the Nistru registered with the Public Services Agency, measures undertaken to prevent pollution of the Nistru River basin, combating poaching, and protecting aquatic biological resources.

The discussions held during the meeting were constructive, with experts expressing openness to further examination of issues of common interest, continued exchange of information, and the resolution of existing problems in the field of environmental protection.
