Moldovan citizens from the Transnistrian region will be able to participate in the elections of 1 November
The Bureau for Reintegration informs, that according to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) Decision No.4301 of 26 September, 2020, there will be 42 polling stations opened in 22 localities from the Security Zone, as well as in the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti, for residents from the Transnistrian region who hold identity documents of the Republic of Moldova and have the right to vote.
Thus, the 247,609 voters domiciled in the Nistru’s left bank localities (Transnistria), Bender municipality and some localities of Causeni district, will be able to exercise their right to vote.
Most polling stations will be opened in Rezina, Sanatauca and Varnita - 4 in each, in 11 localities - 2 polling stations will be opened in each, and in 8 localities – 1 in each.
In accordance with CEC Decision No.4124 of 25 August, this year, the Bureau for Reintegration (including the Delegation of the Republic of Moldova to the Joint Control Commission) and other national authorities have been assigned additional responsibilities to ensure smooth running of the elections of the President of the Republic of Moldova on 1 November, 2020.
The Delegation of the Republic of Moldova to the Joint Control Commission requested for ensuring free movement of citizens from the Transnistrian region and the Security Zone, calling on the Co-Chairs of the Commission, the representatives of Ukraine and the OSCE Mission, to help avoid restrictions and incidents, especially during the elections of 1 November.
Throughout the JCC discussions on unusual situations, it was proposed to involve law enforcement bodies together with the military observers and the representatives of Ukraine and the OSCE Mission to the Joint Control Commission.
It is worth mentioning that Tiraspol announced in the local media that it will allow crossing the administrative line for citizens who want to exercise their right to vote, without imposing the obligation of 14 self-isolation or performing testing against the new coronavirus on their own.
The Chief Negotiator from the Republic of Moldova, Cristina Lesnic, addressed to the Chief Negotiator from Tiraspol a request on the elimination of free movement restrictions in this regard.
